Our 12-week ‘Launchpad’ course encompasses over a decades worth of knowledge and experience, broken down into manageable modules, it’s designed to help you launch a successful career in barbering, even if you have no current experience. The course is delivered by veterans of the game, in our state-of-the-art studio in Leeds.

By the end of this course, you’ll have mastered the essential skills needed to become a successful barber. You’ll be proficient in handling and maintaining your tools, understanding different hair types and styles, and performing a variety of cutting and styling techniques. You’ll also learn how to consult with clients effectively, build a professional portfolio, and market your services to attract a steady stream of clients.
Week 01
Introduction and Basics
- Welcome and Expectations: Get an overview of the course and set your goals.
- Equipment Handling: Learn how to hold, clean, and maintain your tools.
- Health & Safety: Understand hazard perception and how to spot and handle skin infections.
- Hair Washing Techniques: Master the basics of hair washing.
- Consultations: Develop skills to effectively consult with clients.
- Portfolio Building: Learn how to create a professional portfolio.
- Demo from Jay & Jordan: Watch live demonstrations from our master barbers.
Week 02
Basic Full Cuts on Doll
- Shape and Structure: Understand different head shapes, hair types, and hairstyles.
- Full cuts on dolls head: Learn basic scissor work, Complete full cuts on a dolls head following demo from previous week and learnings.
Week 03
Clipper Work
- Clipper Techniques: Recap on clippers and learn Levels fade steps on client.
- Canvas Setting: Master techniques like skin and weight line setting, open clipper, and scissor over comb.
- Line Up: Learn how to achieve a clean line up, including beard work.
Week 04
Top and Scissor Work
- Advanced Techniques: Basic scissor work, basic sectioning, over directing, weight control, and basic texture.
Week 05
Step-by-Step Full Cut
- Guided Practice: Follow a step-by-step process for a full cut
Week 06-08
Individual Focus Points and Full Cuts
- Personalized Training: Focus on individual points and practice full cuts.
- Styling Techniques: Learn various styling techniques to enhance your cuts.
- Marketing Tips: Gain insights on how to market yourself and attract clients.
Week 09
Mid Assessment
- Practical Assessment: Mid point assessment to test your learnings so far.
Week 10-11
Individual Focus Points and Full Cuts
- Continued Practice: Further refine your skills with a focus on individual points and full cuts.
Week 12
Final Assessment
- Final Evaluation: Demonstrate your skills in a final assessment with a client.

I’m Jay, and I’m Jordan. We’re the head tutors at Levels Academy, and together we have over a decades worth of experience in the industry. Having both previously worked at other barbershops throughout our careers, we’ve gained immeasurable experience and honed our skills, and now we want to pass those on to the next generation of barbers.
We designed Levels Launchpad™ to give new barbers an in-depth and hands-on learning experience, covering the whole barbering process, from customer interactions and finding out what they want to achieve with their haircut, to fulfilment, and how to deliver a positive and memorable service to keep them coming back week after week.

Our course is suitable for anyone interested in becoming a professional barber, whether you’re a complete beginner or have some experience in the field.
The course spans 12 weeks, with each week focusing on different aspects of barbering. Classes are held each Tuesday evening from 6pm until 9pm ensure you get ample hands-on practice and theoretical knowledge.
There are limited spaces available for each course date, this is so we can ensure each student gets as much time, and hands-on teaching as possible.
There are no specific entry requirements for enrolling in our barber training course. We welcome all individuals who are passionate about learning the art of barbering.
As standard no, you will be required to bring your own equipment, however, we do offer a starter kit that can be added onto the cost of your course.
A starter kit is available to add when purchasing the course, but if you prefer to get your own equipment then you are more than welcome to do so.
Our Starter kit includes:
1x Set of Clippers
1x Detailer Clipper
1x Foil Shaver
1x Pair of professional barber scissors
1x Brush and Combs
1x Cape
1x Spray Bottle
1x Cut Throat Razor
1x Hair Dryer
Our starter kit is priced at £450, and will be added to the total cost of the course.
Starting from Week 3, you will need models to practice on. This hands-on experience is crucial for building your confidence and honing your skills. This is a requirement of the course and having your own models is needed although if you are struggling please speak with your tutor and we can assist.

Our experienced instructors, Jay and Jordan, will provide continuous support and guidance throughout the course. You’ll also receive feedback on your progress and areas for improvement.
Throughout the course, you’ll learn how to document your work and create a professional portfolio. This will be invaluable when showcasing your skills to potential employers or clients.
Yes, there are assessments to evaluate your progress. A mid-course assessment in Week 9 and a final assessment in Week 12 will help ensure you have mastered the necessary skills.
Upon completing the course, you’ll be well-equipped to work in barbershops, salons. The skills and knowledge gained will open up various career opportunities in the barbering industry.
